I dont have any advantage, but microbiology is the best subject of course!

Friends, I’m blessed with a network of colleagues who help each other. Sometimes very directly with funding when times are tough, other times with encouragement and support. Almost no biologist works alone, we are like ants!

I don’t know if this is an advantage…it might well be a disadvantage! But in any case, even though I’m a scientist I’m not VERY firmly grounded in reality! My mind runs off to the strangest places when I’m not paying attention. I guess that means I’m open to all sorts of questions – I’m very happy to tackle the ‘what-ifs’, however outrageous!

It’s a big advantage to be good with computers – not all scientists are and its getting to be more and more important. However, most science involves working together with other scientists, so you need lots of people with different skills to do the best research.

Scientists all work together, like you said: we are a team! Different areas have different interests and they are all just as valid as each other.

But it does help if you have a lot of people working on the same thing, a lot of money and the super-duper equipment that makes your experiment the right one.
