Good question! I don’t know! I used to think that I had to have my life planned out but God seems to change those plans so I go with what He says.

I have 2 years left of my PhD so definitely in Bristol for those years and then I think I will continue in science as a career but I’m not so whether that would be in academia (university) or in a pharmaceutical company (developping drugs). I love travelling so I really hope that in 10 years time I will be working abroad!

I’ll have just retired then! I want to move to be by the sea…

3 more years here in Cambridge to do my PhD – then fingers crossed I’ll be going to Japan! I really want to get a job as a researcher at a university in Japan, hopefully in Kyoto (which is a beautiful old city full of history and great food). I’ve been wanting to live in Japan for years and years (I’ve even learned to speak Japanese), can’t wait!

But I think I’ll only stay in Japan for 3 or 4 years, because I’m a nomadic soul and can’t stay put in one place for too long! After that, who knows? Maybe somewhere in Europe, maybe the USA, maybe Australia or New Zealand…anywhere is possible!

Eventually I’ll go back to where my family is, which is Malaysia. We haven’t got a very good science education system there, and I think once I’ve gotten enough experience from around the world I can go back and help make a better system. But that’s quite far in the future, a bit more than 10 years I think!

I definitely want to stay in science if I can – I would like to work for a big computational Biology department, maybe as a lecturer by then. I have a long way to go though – I have another year left of my PhD, then who knows!

evieb123- good question. I’d like to still be living in Devon and working in science. If I have won the lottery, I think I’ll start my own lab…
